Discard Bag
I’d put the first item to discard into a rubbish bag before starting this blog. Dialoguing with an item of clothing may seem weird at first, but I assure you, it’ll feel natural over time. The item used to be a favourite of mine: a pink fleece poncho with pom pom ties and heart motifs. I just hardly wore it the last couple of years. Holding it close to my heart and communicating telepathically with it, I realised that its time spent with me, keeping me warm, is now over. I wore it regularly during my pregnancy 6 years ago and enjoyed it then. But now? It no longer sparked joy in me – it’s not my go-to item any more. Did I feel sad? A little. It held a lot of memories for me. My daughter, Miya, loves it too. Most likely cos it’s covered with hearts. Has it outgrown its usefulness to and for me? Yes, it has. So I thanked the item, hugged it ‘goodbye’ and made it my first item to discard, to get the ball rolling. The first item (on this round!) that I chose to discard happened to also be a Sentimental Item. I think being realistic and pragmatic about things helps a lot in this elimination process.
As for the Unsure and OK pile, I’ve decided to try each item on to see if I feel anything from wearing each piece. (And yes, thanks to Trello, I now have a clear deadline for each task!)
